My cancer

How it all started...
Around September 2004, I noticed a small bump on my left thigh. I didn't think much of it until I realized it was slowly growing. Around the end of January 2005 it got much bigger, it was now the size of a tennis ball. At the beginning of February I decided to go to the hospital and the doctors told me it was only a ball of fat which re-assured me but when it kept growing I knew something was wrong. By the end of february I had decided to go to another hospital and they told me that there was something seriously wrong with this bump. They did a bunch of tests but they couldn't find what was wrong with me so they decided to operate to do a biopsy.

The operations...
The first operation was in the middle of March. It was only painful for about 3-4 days but then I was fine so I started working and living my life normally until I got the results of the biopsy. My surgeon called me in for Tuesday March 12th(can't forget that date) and announced to me I had cancer! I was schedualed to get operated the following week on Thursday March 21st.

The cancer itself...
This cancer is a tumor called "myxoinflammatory fibroblastic sarcoma". It's a very rare type of cancer and there is only 100 reported cases that are known. It hits men as much as women but it usually hits people over their 30's so I still don't understand how I got it. Thank god it's not an agressive type and it's not known to spread. The only downside of it is that it tends to grow back at the same place if they don't take it out completely.

The surgery...
Since they had already taken out a major part of it during the first operation.. the worst was to come. This time they had to scrap out the cancer to make sure it was completely gone and take off all the skin that was on top of to make sure that hadn't gotten infected too. So for that they had to shave off some skin from another part of my body (which was on my higher left leg) and place it where the surgery was done (more details are in the category below). For all that I had my surgeon(the one that had operated me last time), a cancer specialist and a plastic surgeon(he's the one that dealt with the skin).

What it looks like...
Since I don't have any pictures I made drawings of it (I'm sorry in advance 'cause my drawing sucks).
Drawing A:
Drawing A is basicly describes the shape. The little red thing popping out of the leg is the swealing I drew this part to show about where they took the skin from. The inside curve is how deep the scar is, it will never turn back straight so I'm stuck with a little hole for the rest of my life. Oh and the blue rounds are my knees heh it was just to show exactly where it's located on the leg.
Drawing B:
Drawing B is what the scar looks like. It doesent have these colors but its pretty much red although it actually has that black line around it but as it heals its supposed to go away. Each blue line is a hole in the skin 'cause when skin heals it stretches so when it'll be completely healed it's gonna become tight skin again.

The after surgery...
Right after the surgery I was in really bad pain so I was in the hospital for 5 days. I was on morphine for 3 days and by the fourth day I started walking with crotches...... Now that was 3 years ago my skin is now tight again and I can walk properly though my leg will never look the same I just thank god I didn't loose it!
